Some MIJ drums came in for @a.malone.hill for a Spa Treament™️ At first glance these drums seemed pretty clean. Although once I started to dissect these drums there was a can of worms I had to deal with. The edges throughout each drum were drastically different and the floor tom had a huge round over and some major tear out that I had to deal with. The wrap seams were all lifted. Something I’ve never seen before was the fact these shells were wrapped in paper then wrapped in vinyl. Meaning the wrap basically isn’t glued to the shell at all. Glueing the seems down meant you had to pull the wrap as tight as possible and simply just glue the wrap to itself. All edges were levelled and recut after some shell reconstruction. Snare beds were widened and deepened. All lug springs were insulated and all hardware was cleaned. The bass drum hoops got relief cuts and a quick touch up to cover up any bare wood. All in all this is now a great little kit with a great vintage tone. #drums #vintagedrums #MIJdrums #searchingfortone #drumrepairshop

60s Gretsch came in for new edges, hoop repair and insulated lugs for @joshuageddert These old early 60s Gretsch’s are notorious for oversized shells which lend itself to a handful of issues. Most drumheads do not fit and you’re left with a select few heads that do. Your tuning range is also compromised and low tunings never really work on these shells. Even the aftermarket bass drum hoops fit tight on these drums due to the oversized shells. Most of these of problems you can’t really fix. The edges on this drum were pretty out of level and had inconsistencies all over. This is something you can fix! With these oversized shells you have to round the edge over more than normal to get the peak in the right spot. Remo classic fit heads are about the only drumhead you can use on these drums without fighting to get it on or off. I love these drums even though they don’t do “everything” you want them to. They have sound and when you need that sound they are amazing. Another set of Coronets came in for the Royal Spa Treatment™️ for the Regina homie @justinhauck Where to start? So much was done to this kit. The snare came in fully separated at the scarf joint. Some radius culls and some careful measuring brought this drum back to life. Since the old wrap was toast a new gloss black wrap went on! Edges were levelled and recut along with new snare beds. All drums got levelled and recut bearing edges with some minor shell reconstruction. The bass drum got new wood hoops that I cut to size, shaped and inlayed reusing the original inlays. The bass drum spurs were sharpened and all hardware cleaned. All wrap seams were cleaned and adhered. Like all rewraps first things first. We need to get back to bare wood before the adhesive and vinyl can go on. Quality @precisiondrumcompany drum wrap in green glass glitter makes these shells look pristine 👌🏻 Edges were levelled and recut. Not to mention this is easily one of the cooler wraps I’ve seen IMO All edges were levelled and recut for optimal tuning range, ease of play and extended drumhead life. All lug springs were insulated to prevent unwanted noise. The old steel bass drum hoops were ditched for new maple hoops. I saved the original inlays and reused them. I had to shave a 1/4” off these hoops prior to cutting new inlay channels, relief cuts and front bullnose.
